Stainless Steel Materials

Stainless steel is a family of steel alloys containing at least 10.5% chromium. Most grades used in construction also contain a certain percentage of nickel, and may have additions of manganese, molybdenum, or other elements for special properties. Stainless steel is increasingly used in both interior and exterior architectural applications due to its appearance, strength, and high corrosion resistance.

Stainless steel’s versatility allows it to adapt to a variety of design styles, from minimalist to industrial, and even blend with traditional elements. This adaptability allows architects to realize a wide range of design visions without compromising material properties, thereby enhancing the overall aesthetic and functionality of the building.

Stainless Steel Grades:

Stainless Steel Grades:

304 Stainless Steel: The most commonly used chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel, suitable for a variety of architectural applications. It is easy to form and fabricate, and offers excellent corrosion resistance to weather exposure.

304L Stainless Steel: A low-carbon variant of 304, it offers slightly higher corrosion resistance and is sometimes used for heavy components with extensive welding.

316 Stainless Steel: The addition of molybdenum provides even higher corrosion resistance. Suitable for harsh corrosive conditions such as heavy industrial and marine environments.

430 Stainless Steel: A chromium-ferritic stainless steel with lower corrosion resistance than the 300 series. Primarily used in interior decoration applications.

Plating Process:

Plating Process:

The most commonly used plating process for stainless steel is PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition). This environmentally friendly vacuum coating process vaporizes metal in a vacuum and deposits a thin but hard layer of metal or metal compound onto the stainless steel surface, imparting a variety of colors. It does not use electroplating fluids and produces zero emissions.

Stainless Steel Highlights:

Stainless Steel Highlights:

Excellent Corrosion Resistance: Grades 304 and 316, in particular, are resistant to a wide range of corrosive media, ensuring long-term aesthetics and service life.

Excellent Mechanical Properties: High strength, hardness, and resistance to deformation make them suitable for load-bearing and high-strength applications.

Various Surface Finishes: A variety of finishes, including brushed, mirrored, sandblasted, and etched, as well as PVD coatings, are available to meet diverse design needs.

Easy to Clean and Maintain: The dense surface resists dirt and facilitates daily cleaning.

Environmentally Recyclable: This green material is 100% recyclable.

FAQs
When customizing stainless steel, how should I choose between 304 and 316 grades?
304 is the most cost-effective choice for indoor or dry environments; 316 is essential for humid, coastal, or corrosive environments, as it offers greater corrosion resistance.
PVD coatings can achieve a variety of colors, including gold, rose gold, black, and bronze. The PVD coating provides a strong bond, resists fading under normal use, and is wear- and corrosion-resistant.
Surface finishes primarily affect aesthetics and do not affect the strength of the stainless steel itself. Strength is determined by the grade and thickness of the steel.
Optimize the design by using integrated bending or designing welds in concealed locations. Laser welding can create subtle welds, which can then be restored to their full potential with professional polishing.
Stainless steel has a dense surface and is very easy to clean and maintain. Simply wipe with a soft cloth and water or a dedicated cleaning agent. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or sharp objects.
